We're recording the demo with Chris Calder over the first half of March Break. 4 Song EP - two songs you've heard us play, two songs you haven't. Maybe a hidden track. We'll see.
We're gonna probably do some demo release for that at the very end of March / beginning of April.
However! We do have two FIVE DOLLAR shows coming up. Psyched that more of these are happening.

The Story
Metropolis has been together for about a year now, but we've really been a band for about 4 years.
The band started as 4-piece generic metalcore band: Glory Kills
Evan Jones - Drums
Brett Costa - Bass
Mat Torresano - Guitar
Andrew Manella - Vocals
They played all of one show, which I actually hosted with Brett in June 2006. The following summer was filled with various different guitarists, as Mat was kicked out of the band. As well, for some reason (probably just to be inclusive), I was put in the band on keys. We played at the Aurora Community Centre, and Latchem Hall before we stopped jamming.
A year or so went by, then Mat and I went to Evan with the idea to form a pop-punk band of some sort. Adam Marsala (Big City Skyline) was apart of that too. We were called Amsterdamned!, and we didn't play a single show. Though just a month ago I was reading through the messages on our gmail, and we had actually been given a spot to open a show Living with Lions was headlining.. Yeah we kicked ourselves for that.
August of 2008 we decided, fuck pop punk, we needed to play heavy music. Also, I decided I didn't want to play guitar, I wanted to rock the mic. Dan Sampieri, one of our best friends, was added to the band on guitar. He's actually a pretty wicked guitarist, and had only picked up the instrument six months prior to playing with us (he's a god damn genius, legit). Adam unfortunately couldn't continue with us, and our friend Derek Kendall subbed in for him for the time being. Derek's not even naturally a guitarist, I don't think he owns one even at all. The dude shreds the bass though, and he was just a great guy. September 19, 2008 we opened a local show featuring Shortline Hero at the Aurora Community Centre. Still under the name Amsterdamned! haha, we played I think a 3 and a half song set or something. It was incredibly lame of us.
And once we wrote a 4th song, we played a show at the Reverb in toronto. That show was even more lame. Finally, we were granted a spot on To Cherish's CD Release at the Aurora Soccer Club in December. Derek couldn't make it for some reason, and Harry Rollo graciously subbed in for him at the last second.
We broke up for a month or so at the beginning of 2009.. I think because Evan & I got in a fight for some reason. Though we resolved everything, got back to jamming, and this time with Harry on guitar. Played 3 or 4 times spontaneously over the next 8 months. In that time, Dan decided he could no longer continue, and Harry introduced Denis Marino on guitar.
I think up until Denis was introduced into the band, we were a lot more oriented towards merely being a hardcore band and playing locally, and just the thrill of being in a band at all. It's all new to us, this is all our first real band, and every ounce of progress we've made/are making is new to us. And that was all exciting, but our music was shitty. We never got a chance to write a full set with the same 2 guitarists. Even if we had, it probably would have still turned out shitty. Though with Denis coming into the band, being one of Harry's best friends, we sort of felt it all fall into place. And it did, we've had the same lineup since July of 2009. With that, we decided we needed to focus a lot more on our actual sound, as opposed to being a band. Harry and Denis are both real different, and real talented guitarists (in my opinion, though it's not like you can really derive talent from hardcore music anyway haha), and we started developing and building onto our sound a lot more.
That summer we also recorded a single with Derek Hoffman (Brighter Brightest), which subsequently was released in November of 2009. "Living Proof", and that track alone brought us so much more recognition. To this day it is still the only Audio track we've recorded. Though what's ironic about that song is that it pre-exists both Harry and Denis, haha. That was that "4th" song we had written for the Reverb way back when. I dig it as a song, but it doesn't truly reflect where we are today at all. It's kind of sad that it's all we have to show for ourselves.
We're still writing, still developing, still progressing. We've still got a lot of time before we need to expire. We're recording our first EP next month, and I'm ecstatic to let the world (the people who listened to Living Proof anyway) judge us for who we really are and how we really sound.

FYI
Just to introduce this all to whoever reads this, we are Metropolis, the Hardcore band from Aurora, Ontario, and this is our blog. I find that this'll be a lot more personal than our myspace/facebook, and I find that the more I can learn about a band beyond their music helps develop my appreciate for their music. So if you're the same way, this is for you.
